Cape May, New Jersey

Tim and I visited Cape May around the end of November, and I can't believe how quickly time has flown since then! Also it's funny that at that time we were complaining of the cold when it was about 5°C. Now we are experiencing down to -13°C and that day seems like memories of a warmer time.

The drive down only takes about an hour and a half or two. It really is the perfect quick half day getaway for New Jersians / Philiadelphians. But even with the proximity and relative straightforwardness of the route, of course we somehow managed to get lost. But then again what would a road trip be without the confusion and shouting of "You missed the turn", "Where the blip are we?", "Get the damn GPS out already!".

So with this lovely scene in the car we were quite happy to arrive in the picturesque township right in time for lunch. I didn't know what to expect since I had not done my usual Tripadvisor / googling beforehand. We were both very pleasantly surprised to find a quaint Victorian town on the beach. With its gorgeous little charm and location on the beach, I can only imagine how packed this place must get in the summer. However due to it being low season, not only were there not many (if any?) other tourists about, but even many of the businesses had closed for the winter.

Even so we managed to find a lovely little pub for lunch called the Ugly Mug. There I was able to enjoy a local speciality which is the lobster roll. It was a very generous portion, delicious and a great price to boot *winning*. Besides from the great food, I also very much enjoyed a hot cocktail (as in served heated!). In these temperatures I don't know why there aren't more hot alcoholic beverages on offer....

So after our lunch we explored the beach a little though the winds made it very cold there. We then walked through the main shopping street and enjoyed some salt water taffy from the original company that invented it (I actually hate it, but Tim loved the stuff). After this pleasant shopping and promenading down the avenue we thought we had pretty much seen all of the sights on offer during the winter and decided to head back home

Just as we were leaving the town we saw a sign that read 'Lighthouse'. We only had about a minute to decided to follow it or not as we approached the turn off. We made the sharp turn in time and followed the scarce signage that led down a somewhat dubious and meandering little drive. Luckily we arrived at the lighthouse just in time for a beautiful sunset.

Check out some of our pics!
